Dubai Set to Welcome the World's Second Tallest Skyscraper with the Burj Azizi

Dubai’s iconic skyline, already home to the world's tallest skyscraper, is preparing to add another architectural marvel — the Burj Azizi, which will soon claim the title of the world’s second tallest building.

Construction on the Burj Azizi began in January this year, although its exact height remained undisclosed as the developer awaited approval from Dubai authorities, including the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which oversees the planning of supertall structures.

This week, Azizi Developments confirmed that the skyscraper would soar to an impressive 725 meters (2,379 feet), surpassing all but one of Dubai's towering landmarks — the Burj Khalifa.

In a statement, Azizi Developments' founder and chairman, Mirwais Azizi, explained that two designs had been prepared — one for a height of 526 meters and the other for the now-approved 725 meters. With approval for the more ambitious design, additional foundation and piling work is already underway.

The Burj Azizi will boast 131 stories and include luxury apartments, a seven-star all-suite hotel, and a seven-floor vertical shopping mall. Positioned on Sheikh Zayed Road, in Dubai’s World Trade Center district, the building will still be nearly 340 feet shorter than the Burj Khalifa but will easily surpass Marina 101, the current holder of Dubai’s second-tallest building title.

Once completed, the Burj Azizi will also claim several world records, including the highest hotel lobby, nightclub, observation deck, and restaurant, all located at extraordinary heights within the tower. Notably, its 122nd-floor restaurant will be higher than the famous At.mosphere restaurant located on the same floor of the Burj Khalifa.

The project represents an investment of over 6 billion dirham ($1.6 billion) and is slated for completion in 2028. Apartments are expected to go on sale by February 2025.

Dubai, a city already known for its breathtaking architecture, currently holds the global record for the most buildings over 300 meters tall. The Burj Azizi adds to an impressive list of future projects, including the Ciel Dubai Marina, which is expected to be the tallest hotel in the world, and the Burj Binghatti Jacob & Co Residences, aiming to be the tallest residential structure.
