Saudi Green Initiative to Host 2024 SGI Forum in Riyadh During Landmark COP16 Event

The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) has announced the return of its SGI Forum to Riyadh for 2024. Taking place December 3-4 under the theme “Action is in our nature,” this year’s forum will coincide with the UN’s Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the first time COP16 will be held in the Middle East.

The SGI Forum 2024 marks the fourth annual gathering of global leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts, coming together in the SGI Pavilion within the COP16 Green Zone. Attendees will engage in dozens of specialized sessions focused on innovative climate solutions, best practices, and progress updates on SGI targets, aiming to deepen global collaboration for sustainable action.
Since its 2021 inception by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the SGI has made notable strides toward a greener future, including the installation of over 4 gigawatts of renewable energy, the planting of more than 95 million trees and shrubs, and the re-wilding of over 1,660 endangered animals in Saudi Arabia.

With a 4,000-square-meter SGI Pavilion open to the public for the duration of COP16 (Dec. 2-13), visitors can explore the SGI Gallery and take an interactive journey through Saudi Arabia’s climate and environmental efforts. The Pavilion will also host SGI Talks, an expert-led speaker series, along with a multimedia showcase detailing the Kingdom’s over 80 climate initiatives.

Established to support Saudi Arabia’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2060, the SGI reflects a national commitment to improving quality of life, addressing regional climate challenges, and fostering environmental resilience.

The SGI Forum has traveled to locations including Sharm El-Sheikh and Dubai, aligning with COP27 and COP28, and has consistently showcased Saudi Arabia’s climate action advancements, from increasing renewable energy capacity by 300% to planting millions of trees toward a goal of 10 billion.
