Tyrrell Hatton, a star of Legion XIII, is entering the 2025 LIV Golf League season in peak form after an exceptional offseason. His latest triumph came on Sunday at the Dubai Desert Classic, where he clinched a record-tying win with a stellar performance at Emirates Golf Club.
The 33-year-old Englishman carded a final-round 3-under 69 to surpass 54-hole leader Daniel Hillier and secure victory by a single stroke. This marked Hatton’s fifth Rolex Series win on the DP World Tour, matching the record set by his Legion XIII captain, Jon Rahm.
“It feels amazing,” Hatton expressed after finishing the tournament at 15 under par. “I said earlier in the week, this is one of the events you’d like to have on your CV. It’s such an iconic event for the DP World Tour. To add my name to the list of amazing champions before me, and to have my name on that trophy now, it’s a dream come true.”
Hatton’s victory in Dubai is part of an impressive stretch since the conclusion of the 2024 LIV Golf season, his debut campaign in the league. In October, he claimed victory at the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, followed by a solo second-place finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship weeks later.
In total, Hatton has achieved two wins, one runner-up, and three additional top-10 finishes in just six starts since October. This hot streak follows a successful first LIV Golf season, where he captured the title at LIV Golf Nashville and finished fourth in the season-long Individual Championship standings—the highest placement among non-captains.
Hatton’s consistency over his last 13 global starts is remarkable: three wins, two runner-up finishes, three other top-5s, two additional top-10s, and two top-25s. Additionally, he was instrumental in Great Britain & Ireland’s Team Cup victory earlier this month, posting an undefeated 3-0-1 record.
On Sunday in Dubai, Hatton began the final round trailing by one shot but seized the lead by the fifth hole and never looked back. A brilliant wedge shot on the 16th set up a key birdie, and a clutch 5-foot par putt on the final hole secured the title.
“I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous on the back nine,” admitted Hatton, who now boasts 12 career victories. “I guess I maybe wanted it a bit too much. But to see that final putt go in felt amazing. I’m just so happy to win.”
Daniel Hillier, who finished second, praised Hatton’s performance, saying, “Hats off to Tyrrell. He was pretty solid down the stretch there. He’s class. Well done to him.”
Other notable finishes included Laurie Canter, a former LIV Golf player, in solo third and 4Aces GC standout Patrick Reed, who tied for 10th.
The 2025 LIV Golf season officially kicks off with LIV Golf Riyadh, scheduled for February 6-8 at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia.
