Major Upgrade Planned for Dubai Fountain

Dubai’s iconic Fountain, one of the city's most visited attractions, is set to close for five months starting in May as part of a large-scale renovation project. Developers have announced that the upgrades will introduce cutting-edge technology, refined choreography, and an improved sound and lighting system to enhance the spectacle.

Enhanced Features for a More Immersive Show

The renovation aims to elevate the visitor experience by incorporating advanced features that will make the performances even more dynamic and visually stunning. Despite the temporary closure of the fountain, the surrounding areas of the 12-hectare Burj Lake, as well as access to the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, will remain open to the public.

A Symbol of Dubai’s Innovation

“Dubai Fountain is more than a spectacle – it is a reflection of Dubai’s soul, where art, innovation, and emotion come together in perfect harmony,” said Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties, the developers behind the attraction. “As we elevate this iconic landmark, we continue to create experiences that connect people, inspire wonder, and stand the test of time.”

A Legacy of Spectacular Performances

Designed by Wet Design, the same company behind the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas, Dubai Fountain first opened in 2009. As the largest fountain of its kind in the world, it can propel water up to 152 meters into the air, covering a length of 274 meters. The attraction features 6,600 lights and 25 color projectors, creating mesmerizing performances synchronized to an eclectic mix of music.

Over the years, the fountain’s playlist has included global icons such as Adele, Luciano Pavarotti, Lionel Richie, Edith Piaf, and K-pop sensation EXO.

Music Selection with Precision

Peter Kopik, head of choreography for Wet Design, previously shared insights into the fountain’s musical curation. “We have to make sure the music fits the fountain, not only whether it’s good for choreographing but also whether the music respects the fountain,” he told The National in 2018. “We wouldn’t want to have something cheesy or that would degrade the seriousness of the fountain, in which case we reject it.”

With these exciting enhancements on the horizon, Dubai Fountain is set to return with a more breathtaking and immersive experience for visitors from around the world.
