The Power of Starting Small
Joseph Chubatte's business philosophy is rooted in his understanding that significant achievements often begin with modest steps. This principle became evident when he established Capital Shield Insurance Brokers LLC (CSIB) in October 2010. Before co-founding the previously mentioned 12 businesses in UAE and MENA, Chubatte started with just two employees in a small office, beginning with zero production and no networks.
The early days of CSIB tested Joseph Chubatte's resilience and determination. He faced significant challenges in convincing companies to trust his fledgling insurance brokerage services.
Yet, embracing the philosophy that "there is nothing like a dream to create the future," Joseph Chubatte never gave up. He focused on his company’s core of prioritizing seamless delivery, core values, superior coverage, competitive premiums, and exceptional after-sales service.
As a result, under Joseph Chubatte’s leadership, CSIB evolved from its humble beginnings as a startup into one of the UAE's most prominent insurance brokerage companies. Today, the company employs over 100 professionals and manages billions of dollars in insured assets, including defense contractors' marine hulls, airports, ports, aviation, and power plants.
Joseph Chubatte shares, “I did not achieve this success overnight. It took me over 14 years of vision and persistent execution. If I stopped on day one or gave up with my two employees, I wouldn’t be here today and unable to build Abu Dhabi Insurance Brokers.”
Embracing Growth and Innovation
Joseph Chubatte started his insurance career in 1994 as an insurance broker. After a few years, in 1999, he decided to work as a freelance insurance broker until 2006, when he shifted to Abu Dhabi, UAE, and joined Al Dhafra Insurance Company PSJ as a business development manager.
Due to his massive performance in the insurance company, where he helped the business experience an immense increase in profitability, the company promoted Joseph Chubatte to a senior position in two years, making him the assistant general manager.
However, Joseph Chubatte's career trajectory reflects his belief in continuous growth and adaptation. Despite achieving a comfortable position as assistant general manager overseeing sales, marketing, and business development, he chose to pursue his career in entrepreneurship.
This mindset translated directly into his business strategies. Under his leadership, his companies consistently pushed boundaries and embraced innovation. Notably, he pioneered the first smart insurance app in the MENA region 11 years ago, enhancing how insurance services are delivered in the digital age. This technological leap is strategic as he saw businesses leaning toward digitalization.
Further exemplifying this growth mindset, in 2022, CSIB underwent a strategic transformation after establishing a decade-plus presence in the UAE's insurance market. The company rebranded itself as Abu Dhabi Insurance Brokers (AIB) after forming a partnership with Royal Strategic Partners. This move, while maintaining the core management team, positioned the company for its next phase of growth and innovation.
"The market always changes, so as an entrepreneur, I must always be ready to pivot and move forward. Whether it is an unfamiliar terrain or working with new partners, I see it as an opportunity to innovate, adapt, and emerge stronger,” shares Joseph Chubatte.
Resilience Through Adversity
Perhaps the most crucial lesson from Joseph Chubatte's journey is the importance of resilience in business. His early career as a door-to-door salesperson taught him to face rejection with determination. Later, as an entrepreneur launching CSIB, he encountered numerous challenges convincing companies to trust his fledgling firm with their insurance needs.
This resilience was tested in 2020 during the company's expansion into Iraq. Despite facing alleged accusations and legal adversities, Joseph Chubatte maintained his integrity and fought back, ultimately winning all cases filed against him in both Lebanon and Iraq.
These experiences reinforced his belief that rather than avoiding difficult situations, Joseph Chubatte should embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation, both in his personal and business life. This mindset has enabled his businesses to navigate complex market conditions while maintaining their commitment to excellence and ethical practices.
Joseph Chubatte mentions, “Failures are inevitable. This rings true not just in my personal life but also in the business world. There are always mistakes and setbacks behind the scenes, but what’s important is always to find a way out and continue.”
